Project Overview
HAVIK is a top end designer clothing store in Regina. The project came about when HAVIK needed to relocate from the location they occupied to a new space. They moved from the original location in early February 2015 and needed to be operational in the new location by March 30, 2015 so they did not lose the business of existing customers. Opening a temporary location was not a feasible option so they closed during the construction.
The owners of HAVIK had a vision of their store and in conjunction with the designer were able to almost instantly create a concept for turning a rundown shell of a former oil change garage into an amazingly unique award winning clothing store.
Due to the nature of the tight timelines, working off of a concept was all we really had. We were challenged to take hand drawn sketches and verbal ideas and transform and incorporate them into the finished product while still achieving compliance with accessibility, fire codes and building codes.
Throughout this process we needed to be mindful of a budget which was somewhat undefined while also having a scope that was undefined and changing. We had to incorporate and use unique and high-end finishes that were unfamiliar to us and to our team.
The hands-on approach of ourselves and the owners in this space on a continual basis was the only way for this project to succeed. The ability to engage cooperative subcontractors that could adapt to the changing scope allowed us to complete this project. The “shift on the fly” approach that we employed was non-traditional and at times created challenges but they were accepted and dealt with, with the goal to get the business open in a reasonable capacity regardless of the challenges.
